What sandalwood is

The heartwood of the sandalwood tree gives a creamy, soft and slightly milky woody smell with a faint sweetness. Perfumers place sandalwood in the base, where it gives a smooth, rounded depth. It blends easily with rose, jasmine, vanilla, amber and musk, and softens drier or sharper woods around it.
