Iris and orange open Rayhaan Obsidian. Iris is powdery, cool and slightly earthy, like orris butter, and orange brings a bright, juicy contrast. In the heart, leather and rose meet: leather is smoky and supple, rose petal-soft and a little jammy, which makes the middle a study in contrasts between dark and delicate.
Sandalwood, ambrette, oud and cedar hold up the base. Oud is resinous and deep, sandalwood creamy, ambrette musky and seed-like, and cedar dry. Read together, the scent opens powdery and bright, moves through leather and flowers, and settles into a dark, woody and slightly musky floor.
Obsidian is listed as unisex, and the shop tags it for autumn and winter, as well as evening and special. Oud, leather and cedar give it a serious tone, so it fits a wearer who likes dark woods softened by iris and rose.
